20,000 foot view of SC politics

I once had a boss who would always advise taking the "20,000 ft. view" of things. It was his way of saying you should occasionally take a step back and look at the big picture if you really want to know what's going on.

Anyway, I was working on the graphic below for an upcoming thing when I remembered that expression. The graphic illustrates the 17 House primaries where Howard Rich and his associates spent at least $10,000 this year in his effort to build a State House that will pass his private school voucher and tax credit experiment in our state.

The NEA spent close to $4 million fighting vouchers in Utah. There is no telling how much the NEA contributed to the candidates opposing "Rich's" candidates. I'm sure the NEA can get just as creative as Rich and remain legal.

It appears that this blog is only interested in digging in one ditch. It would be interesting to read a "fair and balanced" look at contributions.

Neither side is blameless.

Regardless of the attempted reforms or the $$$ thrown at this issue, the outcomes remain pathetic. Something has to be done to improve public education in SC and I believe most people are open to trying new ideas.

If you are saying the NEA spent money on the 2008 SC elections, show us the facts.

Anonymous No. 1,

Tell me how giving vouchers to the wealthy to send their kids to private schools is going to improve public education. And don't give me that competition crap.

Tell me, jerk off, what private schools the rural poor are going to attend. Tell me how they're going to get there.

You freaky ass racist bastards don't give one flying f#%& about poor or minority students. You don't give a flying f$%& about improving public education. You just don't have the stones to put your real agenda out there -- keeping the precious lily whites from going to school with African-Americans, Hispanics and trailer trash. You don't have the stones, Howie doesn't have the stones and Gov. Dickhead doesn't have the stones.

The system you describe so eloquently is exactly the system that is in place today and has been in place for the last 30 years.

So . . .Who is the racist now? Who is for keeping status quo?

The answer? Look in the mirror but take off your hood!
